ByPublisher Description
"A thrilling fusion of myth and modernity," revel in this explosive debut fantasy of magic and mayhem that"will have you rooting for dragons over humans and loving every minute of it."(Kevin Hearne, New York Times bestselling author)
There's nothing special about Ben Garston. . .or so he'd have you believe. He won't tell you, for instance, that he's also known as Red Ben. That the world of myth and legend isn't just a fantasy, as we've been led to believe. And he certainly can't let you know the secret of what's hiding just beneath his skin. . .
But now a centuries-old rivalry has just resurfaced, and the delicate balance between his world and ours is about to be shattered. Something is hiding in the heart of the city -- and it's about to be unleashed.
Behind every myth, there's a spark of truth. . .

“3.5 stars
This book follows Ben who is a mythical creature living our modern-day world when a centuries old rivalry resurfaces and the balance between his world and ours looks like it might be about to shatter. This was a highly enjoyable, easily readable book. Ben is a very interesting character and for the most part I enjoyed following him. He could be a little dense at times though and I saw a lot of the major plot twists coming while he was still trying to figure things out which did make the book a little frustrating at times. I also didn't really like how Ben viewed the women in his life and how that therefore spilled into how the book depicted its female characters. I really liked the worldbuilding and how the author wove these mythical creatures into our real world. The book is also well-paced and kept me turning the pages. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes this kind of fantasy that mixes the real and the fantastical though I am currently unsure as to whether I will pick up the sequel.”

“This was a hard read. There is hardly any dialog, so it's definitely a slog. The last 100ish pages are the only place I found myself wanting to pick up and read the rest. Not sure I will continue this series.”
