Publisher Description

A #1 New York Times Bestseller!

The Shadowhunters must catch a killer in Edwardian London in this dangerous and romantic sequel to the #1 New York Times bestselling novel Chain of Gold, from New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Cassandra Clare. Chain of Iron is a Shadowhunters novel.

Cordelia Carstairs seems to have everything she ever wanted. She’s engaged to marry James Herondale, the boy she has always loved; she has a new life in London with her best friend Lucie; and she bears the sword Cortana, a legendary hero’s blade.

But the truth is far grimmer. Cordelia’s marriage is a lie, arranged to save her reputation, while James remains in love with the Grace Blackthorn. Cortana burns her when she touches it. And a serial murderer is targeting the Shadowhunters of London, killing under cover of darkness, then vanishing without a trace.

Now Cordelia, James, and Lucie must follow the trail of the killer through the city’s most dangerous streets. All the while, each is keeping a shocking secret: Lucie, that she is attempting to raise the dead; Cordelia, that she has sworn a dangerous oath of loyalty to a mysterious power; and James, that he himself may be the killer they seek.

“5/5 EASILY. “But love is not always a lightning bolt, is it? Sometimes it’s a creeping vine. It grows until suddenly it is all that there is in the world.” - Matthew Fairchild I have stewed, and discussed, screamed, and cried about all of my thoughts on this book, but after three days, I think I can finally make some sort of coherent analysis of the heartbreaker that is Chain of Iron. Overall, I loved this book- I loved this book in a way that I can only love Shadowhunter books. It was a classic 2nd Cassandra Clare book in a trilogy, which is always the most anxiety inducing, and always takes me the longest to read because I keep needing to take a moment to process the stress and calmly try not to throw the book across the room. The biggest takeaway for me is that Grace Blackthorn is such a well-written anti hero and I can not WAIT to see what Cassie does with her in the next book. Having a Grace POV made everything so much more well-rounded, painful, and coherent. I could talk about her for hours and still not have said enough about how well-written of a character she is. Absolutely brilliant. The next thing I want to hit on is a little sensitive, but I really feel like it’s important. The Matthew/Elias parallel that kept being brought up is very concerning to me as a fan. As a reader, I think that it is an excellent device, and of course. Cordelia who feels like she failed at saving her father (and let’s be real, feels like she’s failed at everything in this book) jumps at the chance to save Matthew from himself. But as fan, I see that and my heart breaks, because Cordelia is never going to be able to give him what he needs to fix himself, even if she really does love him. Matthew needs to help himself. By the angel, I hope that he does. Romance-wise, this book was FULL of gorgeous, sexy moments. There wasn't a couple who didn't at least get a page of book time dedicated to them and they were all so different too! Not quite as spicy as TDA but man is it close. And finally, in this book, Necromancy was the name of the game and the that game was absolutely won by our darling Lucie Herondale. But at what cost? Needless to say, I need Chain of Thorns NOW. Book Favorites: Chapter - Archangel Ruined (I know, I love pain) Character- Grace, but also Thomas. He had a great arc too, and I just love him. Moment - Christopher and Grace in the lab!! It was so cute and I loved seeing that side of Grace and seeing Kit be so excited to talk to someone it was UGH so good.”
“I really enjoyed most of the book but really detest the ending.”
