Chain of Iron
ByPublisher Description
A #1 New York Times Bestseller!
The Shadowhunters must catch a killer in Edwardian London in this dangerous and romantic sequel to the #1 New York Times bestselling novel Chain of Gold, from New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Cassandra Clare. Chain of Iron is a Shadowhunters novel.
Cordelia Carstairs seems to have everything she ever wanted. She’s engaged to marry James Herondale, the boy she has always loved; she has a new life in London with her best friend Lucie; and she bears the sword Cortana, a legendary hero’s blade.
But the truth is far grimmer. Cordelia’s marriage is a lie, arranged to save her reputation, while James remains in love with the Grace Blackthorn. Cortana burns her when she touches it. And a serial murderer is targeting the Shadowhunters of London, killing under cover of darkness, then vanishing without a trace.
Now Cordelia, James, and Lucie must follow the trail of the killer through the city’s most dangerous streets. All the while, each is keeping a shocking secret: Lucie, that she is attempting to raise the dead; Cordelia, that she has sworn a dangerous oath of loyalty to a mysterious power; and James, that he himself may be the killer they seek.

“oh, how I missed Cassie Clare's sweet yet smart, independent, and brave female characters. (and of course, her brooding male characters) honestly, I feel like so many YA and NA fantasy female characters (like JLA & SJM books) are too egotistical and cocky for my liking.
Anywayssss I absolutely LOVED this sequel. Chain of Gold was my favourite book of 2020 and possibly my new favourite book of all time and the sequel did not disappoint in the slightest. The plot was a bit slow-moving than usual, but that meant more time for character/relationship development and quality friend/family time. As usual, I loved every character and this book made me feel all the feels. (my faves other than the main couple have got to be Thomas and Alastair because they have the best enemies-lovers thing going on) but Lucie and Jesse are up there. I liked how this book went deeper into Lucies power. Though my favourite part was James and Cordelia's marriage dynamic, and all the sweet scenes with them together.
The ending had me SCREAMING. Like, come on Matthew! They did not even give James a chance to explain before they ran away to Paris. I'm still laughing (and crying) at Matthew just whisking his parabatai's wife away. Also, IS JESSE ALIVE? I mean he CARRIED Lucie to a carriage, I think he is most definitely alive. AHHHH. FINALLY. Also, Grace needs a slap in the face. Plz. I am so sick of her LOL.
Some quotes I Loved:
"I feel lucky to see you like this... with your hair loose. As if I were your husband." - Jesse to Lucie (pg.303) not me CRYING
"When he said her name that way, she wanted to give him everything and anything he wanted." - Cordelia to James (pg.454)
"Had Alastair just said, I thought you were beautiful? Alastair, who was literally the most beautiful person Thomas had ever known?" - Thomas to Alastair (pg. 475)
"And I was no longer afraid. I knew I would be able to come home, because of you. That you would lead me back. You are my constant star, Daisy." - James to Cordelia (pg.492)
"Hoping, I suppose...that you would see that I loved you." Matthew to Cordelia (pg.639) Matthew PLEASE. pls, cassie Clare do not make this like the infernal devices with two parabatai in love with one girl. (even though I doubt Cordelia will ever like Matthew in a romantic way) I just feel bad for Matthew. can we get a love interest for him in chain of thorns pls and thank u.
Overall, I loved this book and it is one of my favourites of 2021 so far. Also, I really want to re-read the dark artifices now??
