Publisher Description

Welcome, welcome to CARAVAL, Stephanie Garber’s enchanting, NEW YORK TIMES bestselling fantasy debut about two sisters swept up in a mysterious competition filled with magic, heartbreak, and danger

Scarlett has never left the tiny island where she and her beloved sister, Tella, live with their powerful and cruel father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval, the far-away, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show, are over.

But this year, Scarlett's long-dreamt-of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to attend. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season's Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.

Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. But whether Caraval is real or not, she must find Tella before the five nights of the game are over, and her sister disappears forever.

Continue the adventure in Legendary and Finale—out now!

Thinking Face“Truthfully I really thought I’d like this book more. By all means it certainly isn’t a bad read, and it’s a good entry point to the caraval world. I think my primary issue was I felt disoriented within the world itself but even in saying that, that may have been a stylistic choice to given a repeat point within the story is the struggle differentiating between reality and “the game”. I was invested in the romance throughout, and definitely found the darker more morally questionable characters to be the most intriguing 👀 hoping the next instalment lives up to the series reputation ✨”

Surprised Face with Open Mouth““Welcome, Welcome to Caraval! The grandest show on land or by sea. Inside you’ll experience more wonders than most people see in a lifetime.” This book is, filled with mystery, twists, turns, and magic. Caraval is not for the faint of heart. “Legend likes to play twisted games with people, and one of his favorite is making girls fall in love with him.” Scarlett and Tella, get a front row seat to the Legend’s magic mind. The story starts out slow, but once you reach the island the story takes off on an adventure. When in Caraval, just know nothing is what it seems just like the ending of this book. I loved it and can’t wait for the second book!”

Surprised Face with Open Mouth“HOOOLY moly. This book does an incredible job at making you shift your attention from Scarlett & Tella's father being the enemy, to Legend being the enemy... and then you realize at the very end that the POINT OF EVERYTHING they both experienced was to rid themselves of the true evil. God, what a ride that was. I loved the slow-burn romance, the whimsical descriptions of the world Scarlett was thrust into, and the jaw-dropping, whiplash turns that were made in the last several chapters. I'm definitely addicted. I only knocked off half a star because, as I feel about most "the character is dead, wait no they're not" twists in books, I sort of wish that we were made to sit with the hypothetical death of Tella and Julian for a bit longer. ❤️”

Beaming Face with Smiling Eyes“I actually quite enjoyed this book. I did listen to the audiobook version of it for the majority of the book. And I believe that that’s one of the reasons I enjoyed it so much. The narration was incredible and I was able to get lost in the world of Caraval whilst I listened. I feel like the story was very well written, there was never a dull moment for me. It was very thought provoking in the sense that I was constantly at the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next. Even the ending was great. I’m giving it 4/5 stars because I listened to the audiobook and that really made my entire experience.”
