By Lori M. Lee
Calling of Light by Lori M. Lee digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

Sirscha has returned to Evewyn, only to discover that everyone believes she killed the queen and that she’s the new king’s Shadow. These rumors have made people fear her, but it’s not the rumors that concern her—it’s finding out what the Soulless is going to do next so she can finally destroy him.

Everyone might believe she’s a monster, but Sirscha knows who the real evil is, and she refuses to let him destroy their world.

Full of the danger, intrigue, fierce friendship, and incredible world building of the first two books in the Shamanborn trilogy, this final installment will delight readers of this popular series.

“*3.25 FULL CIRCLE STARS* This was a nice conclusion to a good fantasy trilogy. I can't say much more than that because I feel like it's been ages since I read the first two books in this trilogy, so I wasn't as invested into the world and the story anymore. In fact, I barely remembered anything that happened, but it all came back to me while I read this one. There's no romance in these, so if that's what you're looking for, these aren't for you. Anyway, another series finished, whoop whoop!”
“The way I see it, some romance readers pick up a book, not needing it to be revolutionary, just needing a solid read that is familiar but not cookie cutter. That can be entertaining playing into the genre conventions while having some original elements to make it sparkle. We can guess how it ends, we can guess the vibes and story beats. But romance readers will still dig in. This is the YA fantasy version of that. It’s a little predictable, but it’s still compelling. Serves us a solid finale to a pretty good YA series. None of the three books in the series has been a waste of my time. I’ve been properly entertained. But I am easily amused when it comes to books. The characters grow realistically, more lore is explored, and there’s a good balance of character and plot. Refreshingly or a YA fantasy, there is no romance. Not a bit. No love triangles. No pining. Our heroine’s identity and worldview has nothing to do with who she’s courting. (There’s nothing wrong with individual instances of this, but when every. single. book. does this it grates on my soul.) A subjective 4.25/5 stars. My hat’s off to you.”
““Where there is darkness, there is also light” is the only phrase that can describe the conclusion of a breath stealing trilogy and I've never been more proud to announce that I was selected as one of the arc readers for it! It was painfully sad since it was quite short but the way things ended was abrupt yet short and sweet- it’s hard to not feel really bad for the soulless though.. And I can understand her conflict and her need to just protect that one person in their life who they only want the best for (does that make sense??) even if it means getting hurt in the process, so very very relatable. Though this leaves me hungry for more, like a epilogue or a glimpse as to what happens next or what happened (like i mentioned before- LORE BOOK PLEASE BECAUSE ITS SO RICH YOU CAN’T TELL ME IT’S NOT GOING TO BE THE MOST INTERESTING THING EVER- WHO IS HER MOTHER? RONIN AND SOULLESS BACKSTORY WHEN??) **no spoilers but the death of one of the characters hit a little too hard as I was reading on the way home and my heart strings definitely nearly caused me to sniff despite me not really being attached to her. xoxo Ari”
