“Both a fun detective story and a time travel adventure to the old west. It was neat to read about familiar local haunts around So-Cal.”

“I really enjoyed the book, though in some ways it felt like two different stories. The current timeline first felt predictable and tired, and Beth (the main character) came across cartoonishly hard-boiled. But Owen’s whole adventure in the past, and his tragi-comedic circumstance were very well and satisfyingly explored. The premise of his predicament is somewhat hilarious; A YouTube Chef surviving on his culinary skills and wits. I give this book big props for doing something new, and doing it well. I also loved that this explored historical fiction in an interesting and relevant way, putting things logically in context with Owen’s storyline.”

“As a fan of Lee Goldberg, I was excited to try this novel that was outside the world that he has built in his Eve Ronin and Sharpe and Walker series. While there were some parts of the story that were enjoyable, there were others (not going into detail to avoid spoilers) that just did not click for me. While the book never went completely off the deep end and totally jumped the shark, I found myself only finishing the book due to the fact that the two series mentioned above are enjoyable. Hoping that the next two releases in the Eve Ronin and Sharpe and Walker series return to the world that works well.”
