Bright We Burn by Kiersten White digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

The tumultuous, edge-of-your-seat conclusion to the New York Times bestselling AND I DARKEN series--the epic saga that reads like Game of Thrones . . . if it were set in the Ottoman Empire. Who will live? Who will die? And who will rule triumphant?

Haunted by the sacrifices he made in Constantinople, Radu is called back to the new capital. Mehmed is building an empire, becoming the sultan his people need. But Mehmed has a secret: as emperor, he is more powerful than ever . . . and desperately lonely. Does this mean Radu can finally have more with Mehmed . . . and would he even want it?

Lada's rule of absolute justice has created a Wallachia free of crime. But Lada won't rest until everyone knows that her country's borders are inviolable. Determined to send a message of defiance, she has the bodies of Mehmed's peace envoy delivered to him, leaving Radu and Mehmed with no choice. If Lada is allowed to continue, only death will prosper. They must go to war against the girl prince.

But Mehmed knows that he loves her. He understands her. She must lose to him so he can keep her safe. Radu alone fears that they are underestimating his sister's indomitable will. Only by destroying everything that came before--including her relationships--can Lada truly build the country she wants.

Claim the throne. Demand the crown. Rule the world.

Bright We Burn Reviews

4.0
“Bright We Burn is a fittingly intense conclusion to The Conqueror’s Saga by Kiersten White. As a whole, this series has been engaging and unpredictable, filled with political maneuvering, shifting alliances, and the constant question of how much power costs those who pursue it. The final installment is packed with high-stakes moments, and for much of the book, I genuinely didn’t know where the story would land—or who would survive to see the end. The tension surrounding Lada’s fate, in particular, kept the pages turning, and the sense that everything could collapse at any moment felt very real. That said, some of the issues I noticed in the second book carried through here as well. While the characters remain compelling overall, the central trio—Lada, Radu, and Mehmet—often felt flat and one-dimensional in their pursuits. Their goals were clear, but rarely questioned from within, which made their arcs feel narrower than I had hoped by the end of the trilogy. Ironically, it was the secondary characters who shone the brightest. Lada’s inner circle—Nicolae, Bogdan, and the loyal companions she gathered around her—were the characters I connected with most. They believed deeply in the future Lada represented, and their loyalty felt earned and genuine. I believed in Lada’s vision too; the lingering question was whether that future was worth the violence and loss required to achieve it, and whether a different path could ever have been possible. The ending itself was bittersweet. While it was satisfying in its inevitability, it was also deeply sad. I mourned the people who were lost along the way and felt the weight of Lada’s increasing isolation. My feelings toward Radu settled into something closer to indifference, but I found myself hoping most for Theodora—that she might grow into the woman her mother tried, and perhaps failed, to become. Overall, Bright We Burn delivers a powerful, emotionally heavy conclusion to a strong trilogy. It doesn’t resolve every conflict cleanly or comfortably, but it does stay true to the themes the series has been exploring from the start: ambition, power, sacrifice, and the often-painful cost of shaping history.”
