Publisher Description

The instant NEW YORK TIMES and USA TODAY bestseller!

A young warrior dreams of proving his worth in the elite Guardian Tournament, fighting not only for himself but the fate of everything he loves.

Sixteen-year-old Jun dreams of proving his worth as a warrior in the elite Guardian’s Tournament, held every six years to entrust the magical Scroll of Heaven to a new protector. Eager to prove his skills, Jun hopes that a win will restore his father’s pride—righting a horrible mistake that caused their banishment from his home, mother, and twin brother.

But Jun’s father strictly forbids him from participating. He believes there is no future in Jun honing his skills as a warrior, especially considering Jun is not breathmarked, born with a patch of dragon scales and blessed with special abilities like his twin. Determined to be the next Guardian, Jun stows away in the wagon of Chang and his daughter, Ren, performers on their way to the capital where the tournament will take place.

As Jun competes, he quickly realizes he may be fighting for not just a better life, but the fate of the country itself and the very survival of everyone he cares about.

Breath of the Dragon Reviews

3.5
“Based on Bruce lees legacy One country divided into 2 East and west Breathmarked children - special abilities East: high regard for breath marked West: no high regard, anyone can attain glory God of countries: dragon Dragon wisdom in 2 scrolls Scroll of heaven and scroll of earth East has scroll of earth West has scroll of heaven Both countries want to go to war to join scrolls Emperor in west Council in east Two brothers One breathmarked one not Breathmarked taken by council to train like all other breath marked children in east to train cause only breath marked are allow to perform martial arts Other brother exiled to west cause of practicing martial arts when they are forbidden in east West has no qualms about practicing martial arts With enough practice anyone breathmarked or not can rise to glory and become a gurdian of scroll of heaven. Loved reading it, enjoyable and fun! No astonishing twists of turns but well written and gripping. Fleshed out characters and a lovely magic system. No love story no romance. Would like to read book 2!”
“*book club read* Initially didn’t like the main character but they grew on me. First martial arts genre that I’ve read and surprisingly enjoyed it. Book sets up nicely for a sequal too”
“Very gripping and action packed. The sort of building blocks of the plot are sort of staples you expect from the genre and the authors do a great job of building on it deliver a new story by inverting the typical “chosen one” archetype and story line. The character work and philosophy woven in was really well done and fun to read. I’m definitely eager to see where the story goes as the set up to the sequel is well established and I hope they continue to surprise and engage me.”
