“Major Plot spoilers ahead. Read at your own risk I freaking adored the prequel in this book. It setup the story nicely with the conflict and tension. It showed what Eve and Gage were like as a young couple. It was sweet and adorable. It showed truly the intense and deep love they had for each other despite the fact that they weren’t supposed to be together like Romeo and Juliet. It really showed off their dynamics really well, and the heartbreak that came over them being separated due to her family. To read it was utterly devastating as she was overhearing him being beat up by her father’s men, refusing to give up her location because Gage was protecting her. It just gutted me and made me want to dig right into this because I knew it was going to be raw, emotional, angst, and full of pain. Boy was I right. Their reunion after seven years was beyond intense. It was full of raw emotions, tension and hurt all because Eve lied to Gage when he called her about wanting to get married and run away just like they planned on doing on the night they ran away together, the night he was beat up by her father’s henchmen. The reason Eve did it was to protect Gage even though it was breaking her heart. She knew her father would do anything in his power to hurt Gage, which was the last thing that she wanted so she lied and cruelly rejected him. Gage didn’t take that well, which became very clear as he came into that boardroom to confront as he set about to takeover her family’s business. Sparks flew as soon as their eyes met. It was fire with both anger and desire, but love as well, though they both tapped down because they didn’t want the other to see it. It was a fiery moment, but it was so good because it set up the angst and tension nicely with all the unresolved feelings and misunderstandings. I loved that so, so much. This carried on throughout the story as they pushed each other’s buttons. They knew exactly what buttons to push, but that was what made it so entertaining journey to watch them go on together. They battled hard all the while keeping their true feelings a secret from each other. The pain associated with that. It hurt. It gutted me, but was so good. It just gave me all the feels that I was expecting from that prologue. The steamy scenes between them were as passionate, emotional and sexy as I was thinking. From the moment their lips touched, I knew there was no going back. They were finally getting what they had been for years for. Eve hadn’t been with another man in all the time while Gage engaged in encounters with woman but never felt fulfilled with them because he knew that Eve was puzzle piece he needed to feel whole again. That first coming together was very hot, yet tender especially when he realized that she hadn’t been with anyone. It showed off how connected that he was to her in every single way possible. It was way more than physical for both of them. It was the intimacy that they had missing. The closeness that they yearned for that they finally had in each other’s arms. It was really about their souls meeting every single time that they came together and were connected. It showed what that had hadn’t faded and even became more deep and more intense as they embraced each other. They were it for each other. No questions asked. I liked that. There was plenty of build up between them. I did enjoy that, however I did think it dragged a little bit too long especially with some of the secrets that Eve was keeping from Gage. I wasn’t expecting her to reveal all, but at least one before the whole big revelation scene came where all was revealed to Gage like a Mack truck. I understood why she didn’t, but I just felt like because of that was missing Gage softening in other ways towards her aside from the bedroom. I would liked to have seen some tender moments between them like them holding each other or going or date as Gage would begin to question everything that he knew about the past because he knew at least one of the secrets early on. I wanted a couple more intimate talks spread out through the story so that their relationship could grow and progressed as the story continued on. Even though it was very clear that they were still in love with each other, I would have liked to see them re-fall in love with one another. I think that would have been a nice balance between that and the raw emotional stuff that was going on between them as they were battling one another. Plus the revelation scene was just too much with secret after secret revealed without a little down time to process what had just happened or being said. Also I felt like after Eve revealed all, she did a one hundred and eighty turn around that made my head spin. For majority of the book Eve was very pessimistic and down on her and Gage having a second chance or being together in the future. She even tried to prevent herself from wishing it or encouraging him. Yes, it was due to the secrets she was carrying, and she was softening towards him as he was breaking her down, but to have such a quick turnaround like that just was a little bit weird especially after her being so adamant of not being with him or revealing those secrets to him. It felt off to me. Gage did do a very cute romantic gesture with the flowers at the end, but I think he could have gone a little bit further. I don’t by doing what, but I felt like there was something missing from the declaration scene. I was happy that they were finally getting their HEA, but something at the end left me a little unsatisfied. I think the whole ending just felt a little rushed to me. Overall I really did enjoy this story. I was immediately invested in the story and Gage and Eve as a couple from reading that prologue that was very bittersweet, yet very lovely. It showed really the sweet love, affection and adoration they had for each other, yet it set up the conflict so beautiful that I immediately this going to a pain, intense and raw journey as Gage and Eve set about to make their HEA happen. It was just as intense and painful as I thought it was going to be. It was good. It gave me a lot of the feels along with the angst that I love and adore. They had such unresolved feelings between them, yet I felt their unending and intense love that they had for one another. It was beautiful, yet heartbreaking because I knew they were the one for each other and no one else would do either one. It pulled out at the heartstrings, yet it was fun and entertaining as well as they pushed each other’s buttons throughout. They had very sexy banter going on. The flirting and seduction was insane between them, yet so good. I loved the love scenes between them because they finally had that missing piece that they had been yearning for so long. It showed how they truly needed that connection in order to feel complete. I loved that journey, however I did think it dragged bit especially with no revelations coming until nearly the end book. I wanted at least it be revealed gradually and not just one big info dump because it just felt too much with not a lot of time to process for either me or the characters. The ending was just rushed I thought and a little unsatisfactory aside from the fact they got their HEA. I was just disappointed with the ending especially since the rest of it was amazing, and I loved it so much. It was just a bit of let down at the end.”
