“I will be honest and say that I only downloaded this book because I was sent an E-ARC of Blood's Campaign on Net Galley and felt that the series would be one I would enjoy, and would be worth the effort of reading the previous books in the series.
I really enjoyed this a lot though I will say that some of the sexist comments were unnecessary, and there could have been more female characters, but as this is a historical fiction that isn't focused on romance, it's not too much of a surprise that we only have a handful of female characters on page - with speaking parts.
I liked Holcroft himself, as he has mental health issues (and is on the spectrum) and I think it was really well done and comes across well - my brother is on the spectrum and is very similar.
This was a well written and well researched historical fiction.
Trigger warnings for: alcohol abuse, domestic abuse, physical abuse, sexism, sexual abuse of children, animal abuse, death of animals, blood and gore.”
