Despite her having saved Chicago from a vampire invasion, the Agency wants to get Maddy off their payroll—permanently. With the deadly Retrievers hot on her trail, she has no choice but to trust Nathaniel to port her to safety. But even the exotic and dangerous world that she winds up in is not as peaceful as she would have hoped. Caught in a turf war between a group of fae and a disturbingly familiar foe, Maddy soon discovers that the twisted plots of her grandfather, Lucifer, and his brothers extend even into this unknown realm.

“Ok, so originally I was angry with Madeleine and Nathaniel being draw to one another, because I thought Nathaniel was a dick (and also I hate the name Nathaniel for no good reason). BUT, I also felt that way about JB at first, and was a bit miffed with his abrupt 180° turn around from dickhead boss to sudden bestie (with unrequited (?) feelings). At least Nathaniel has had a somewhat reasonable journey to becoming less dick-ish. I was originally rooting for Gabriel to come back somehow (I didn’t care how), but have come to realize that his story arc was actually quite boring and Madeleine + Gabriel’s insta-love was eminently less believable than Nathaniel’s slightly more gradual transformation to possible love interest. The only thing keeping me from giving this series 5 stars is the continued feeling that there is too much storyline being crammed into too few pages. There are many things still to be resolved, and only one more book, so I’m not expecting this feeling to change.”
“3/5. At first, I was like yeah, cool, we’re finally getting different content and a world we’ve never explored before. Also, a character especially picked my interest. But, it ended up just how it always goes. I would’ve liked to know more about this world rather than going back to those characters. Overall, it was still enjoyable but I want to know about other character’s past. They don’t feel fleshed out, they’re just there to help the main character achieve her arc.”
