“I received an Advanced Listening copy from Macmilllan Audio and Net Galley. I really enjoyed the reading of this book. It was very clear to follow and engaging with all of the sounds. The positive affirmations for the little black boys are very uplifting and encouraging. I love that the author mentions notable black men that readers may be familiar with and some that they may not be so familiar with. This will help to pique their curiosity and expose them to other great black men. I also appreciated the fact that the author talked about whole families-mother and father and respecting the elders. So often, black families are portrayed in the media and beyond as broken, when that is not the case. I would suggest for ages 3 & up. This is one that can be a part of the permanent library and passed down from generation to generation.”
“This is a powerful children's book that celebrates Black boys and the greatness within them. It highlights how they carry legacy, bring joy to those around them, and are filled with intelligence, strength, and limitless potential. What I appreciated most is how the book pushes back against society's narrow views and reminds Black boys that they are so much more than the labels often placed on them. The message is uplifting, affirming, and necessary. This is a book Black boys should hear and read over and over again. It encourages self-worth, pride, and confidence, reminding them that they are wonderful just the way they are.”
“Black Boy, Take Flight is a wonderful and affirming audio book written by Mahogany L. Browne. This is an encouraging and hope-filled ode written about the resilience, courage and beauty of Black boys. Browne writes powerful words that blends the past of African American history and culture to the future. Ancestral connection is here for young readers to learn, dream, thrive and succeed! Family connection is celebrated, as Browne encourages Black boys to empathetically embrace their feelings, and to be joyful with all that life offers them. Thank you to MacMillan Audio and NetGalley for providing this ARC audiobook, in exchange for my honest review. The audiobook is set for publishing on May 5, 2026.”
