About Anna Sewell
Anna Sewell (1820–1878) was an English novelist known for her only published work, ‘Black Beauty’ (1877). The novel was originally written for an older audience but is now widely regarded as a children’s classic. She lived just long enough to see her masterpiece become a success, passing away just five months after its publication. It’s one of the bestselling books of all time and drew attention to the cruel treatment of animals in England, leading to the abolition of the bearing reign.
