Tropes: matchmaker, plus size MMC, billionaire, instalove, closed door
Dual POV 1st person
I found this book surprising, in a very good way! I read a lot and almost exclusively romance novels, so I’m used to the tropes and formulas romance books follow and that’s fine, I don’t really care about it, but this one did not and it was pretty refreshing. For starters, while the MMC is a billionaire…he’s not the most gorgeous man to ever exist who is confident and so self assured it borders on arrogance. Matt is actually sorta insecure in a believable way. He’s described as being a little overweight and anxious about being with Lilyana.
Further, it felt like the usual billionaire trope was flipped- Matt’s family is the one that is close and cares about each other, whereas Lilyana’s small town working class family are the assholes. Along with that, the third act is an easy place to add angst and drama, which did happen but not only was it well done but refreshingly it wasn’t between the MCs. ANNNNDDDD they handled the issue in a rational mature way 🤯 . They didn’t purposely misunderstand each other and I can’t tell you how much I appreciated that lol.
There are two reasons I knocked a star off for this book though, one being it’s closed door which is not my preference, and the epilogue. I didn’t think I cared what happened in the epilogue but this one was not what I expected and it kinda bummed me out.”About Millie Adams
