Prior to the , Jones was a national critic and touring Broadway analyst for   and  and a frequent contributor to . He is also adjunct professor at the Theatre School at DePaul University, where he previously served as associate dean after serving for many years as associate director of the School of Theatre and Dance at Northern Illinois University. A native of Manchester, England, he received his PhD from Ohio State University.
