“Let me start by saying the potential of this story was the best out of the entire series. Jazz’s backstory, leaving her hometown to escape years of fatphobia, leaning on her Aunt Addison as her safe person, and then being pushed back into the world of dating when the last thing on her mind is love — that setup had everything it needed to be the standout of the series. And then the miscommunication showed up and moved in rent free. Lamar is intentional, consistent, and honestly doing everything right. Jazz is self sabotaging at every turn. And together they are stuck in this repetitive cycle of almost getting it right and then not communicating their actual thoughts and feelings, which sends them right back to square one. I gave characters a lot of grace. I really do. But at a certain point the cycle stopped feeling like tension and started feeling like frustration and that affected how I experienced the book overall. Sorry not sorry. The bones of this story are really good. Danielle Allen’s writing is fun and the chemistry between Jazz and Lamar is there. I just needed Jazz to get out of her own way a little sooner. As a series finale it wrapped things up but left me wanting more from what could have been the strongest entry in the whole lineup.”
