“Too many characters, I kept forgetting everyone's names because they would introduce someone new like every fifth page. It's more adult than the other Francesca Lia Block books I've read, and I think with that came a much less dreamlike LA setting. I prefer her weird, glittery magical realism to this cynicism. The conflict between Catt and Bree felt contrived. Everyone reacted to Catt's self-pity in ways that didn't make sense. The AA chekov's gun went off in the way I least suspected and again, the fallout from that barely made sense. The identity of the killer surprised me, but again partially because there were so many characters jammed in that I'd forget about most of them as soon as they were off the page.”
