“ACTUAL RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ ½
I wasn't expecting to enjoy Between Burning Worlds as much as I did since I felt just okay when it comes to the first novel in this series (Sky Without Stars). I'm usually not the type of person who normally picks up science fiction novels, however, if you tie-in a reimagining of something that is already existing then, yes, I will give it a try.
Les Misérables is one of my favorite plays so that is part of the reason I was interested in picking this specific series up.
WHAT I LOVED ABOUT THIS NOVEL:
I'm usually the type of person who doesn't really care for a heavy number of sci-fi novels due to the amount of information that always comes with it. However, with Between Burning Worlds and its first novel being also a retelling of one of my favorite Broadway plays/feature films, I thought it would be very interesting to see how tying these two together, and honestly, I was a little hesitant to even pick the series as a whole up.
The characters are honestly the main reason why I surprisingly adore this series. Most chapters of this novel is only my favorite and then there are other chapters that are my least favorite, and that is perfectly normal when it comes to reading.
WHAT I DISLIKED ABOUT THIS NOVEL:
If it wasn't for my love for the characters, I think I would've DNF'ed this series in a heartbeat. I took two stars off when it comes to my rating due how various scenes were dragged out and it was very unnecessary, and it's part of the reason why I took my time with this novel.”
