Publisher Description

Fans of Abby Jimenez and Meryl Wilsner will fall in love with this hilarious and refreshingly authentic novel about second chances, pugs, and finding the perfect muse . . .

Business consultant Rose Josten might not have officially reached “pug lady” middle age, but she’s already got the pugs—along with their little Gucci coats and trash-lovin’ appetites. Still, life is good, with her work, her sisters, and a secret hobby creating incredibly tactile (if surprisingly sexy) mindfulness videos. So why does it feel like it’s not quite enough? Which is exactly when former filmmaker Ash Stewart enters camera left, and Rose’s world suddenly goes full technicolor . . .

Ash never looks at anyone. Not since her ex ripped her heart from her chest in Spielberg-esque style, crushing Ash’s reputation, dreams, and directorial career in one brutal blow. But Rose is altogether different. She’s curvy, beautiful, and just so damn put together. And her business expertise might be Ash’s best bet for getting her last film—and her last chance—financed. Now if they can just keep their attraction under wraps, Ash’s lost dream could finally come true. But are they creating movie magic . . . or setting the stage for disaster?

Thumbs Up“I found this entertaining and sweet. I liked the two main characters, but I found it to be a little too instalove for me. I would read more by this author though.”

“'Behind the Scenes' is a sapphic romance about Rose, who is a consultant, and Ash, who is a director. They meet by accident at a Pug Crawl where we learn that Rose has pugs. Rose is hired by Ash's friend, Emma, to consult on financing of a movie that Ash is working on. Ash and Rose begin to work together, and they develop feelings that are more than professional. I enjoyed this book, but I felt like the pacing was off. Some parts were slow, and other parts felt rushed. I wanted to learn more about their relationship, and I think that the dialogue could have given more of an insight into their connection. I know that we are supposed to see their instant connection, but it wasn't clear enough to me. The title of the book had more than one meaning for me. 'Behind The Scenes' could be seeing the movie making process with the producer, but it could also be taking in less a of literal way. I thought that we got to see 'behind the scenes' meaning that you don't know what is going on behind the scenes of someone's life. They may look like they have a perfect life, but no one knows what scare someone might have hidden from view. Scars can be visible, like with Ash, or they could be invisible with the pain of loss with Rose. I liked the multiple meanings of the title. I liked all of the scenes with Rose and her sisters, and I would have liked them to be included more in the book. I loved the relationship between the four women, and their scenes were very funny. I would have liked to see more of the movie making process and what goes into making a movie. We didn't get much of that with this story. I would also like to see more of the romance between Ash and Rose. I didn't see enough to want to be invested in their relationship. I enjoyed this book, and I would recommend it. Thanks to NetGalley and Forever Publishing for an ARC of 'Behind the Scenes'.”
“It took me awhile to get into this one, but I think that was a me thing, not a book thing. I had to pick it up twice and the second time I had a hard time putting it down. Rose and Ash were such unique, interesting, well-written characters and I loved seeing them open up to each other and fall in love. The supporting characters were great too and I hope we get to see more from some of them in the future! I love a Hollywood romance but I've never read one like this, and I appreciated the fresh look. I will also say that at first I didn't get the ASMR storyline and it didn't seem to add anything to the story. And how wrong I was. The way it opened Rose up and the way it helped Ash heal and the way it brought them together! I can't wait to hear more from Karelia-Stetz!”
“I really loved Satisfaction Guaranteed, so getting to read another book set in this universe made me so happy. Romance books with a lot of character depth that can still be funny and joyful are my favorite. This book deals with a lot of trauma that both characters are processing throughout the story, and I'm so glad the author didn't shy away from addressing this. Showing a healthy and happy relationship, with partners supporting and not pressuring each other as they work through their trauma is so wonderful to see. Behind the Scenes is also a pretty steamy read, while also showing different levels of intimacy. I just loved this book so much and I hope we get more of these queer Portland based romance novels!”
“3.4 stars Essentially this is a book about vulnerability and healing. The characters are patient with each other and it depicts a healthy romance. If you're looking for a book with steamy characters or if you enjoyed Satisfaction Guaranteed, you'll enjoy this one! The ASMR storyline was interesting and it was woven into the story in a unique way. Now for the reasons I didn't enjoy this one. The intro was a little messy, we were introduced to so many characters it was difficult for me to build a connection with the two leads. This is a dual-POV novel and I found it difficult to identify each character's voice.”
