“Finished 4/9/24. While I'm not an educator, I have a strong interest in restorative justice so was very interested in this book. I found it engaging, thorough, and really interesting. It covered all the necessary background information in an understandable way, e.g. the brain biology chapter was very readable and not full of jargon. I did think there was a bit too much reliance on a small number of sources - some parts felt like a rehashing of other people's work, or too many quotes from the same people. However overall I thought this was a great book, and society would hugely benefit from reading it and learning from it. The summaries and questions at the end of each chapter were really great too,. Thanks to NetGalley for my advance copy.”

About Joe Brummer

Joe Brummer is a trauma-survivor having lived through early exposure to violence, child abuse and neglect, and 2 separate violent anti-LGBTQ hate crimes a decade apart. Joe has turned his healing journey into a career in peacebuilding, restorative justice, and consulting in trauma-informed education. He has worked with schools, NGOs and organizations sharing nonviolent communication, implementing peer mediation programs and school-wide restorative practices. Joe now works as an independent consultant to schools and school districts developing trauma-informed approaches to restorative practice in multiple locations throughout the United States.

Margaret Thorsborne a consultant with a background in teaching and counselling, is an author, trainer and facilitator and a pioneer and expert of restorative practice and its implementation in educational and workplace settings. She is a founding director and current Chair of Restorative Practices International (RPI) and travels and trains around the world Margaret has been awarded an Order of Australia medal for her services to education, and a Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Association of Community and Restorative Justice (NACRJ) in USA.

Margaret Thorsborne is the Managing Director of Transformative Justice Australia (Queensland) and Thorsborne and Associates in London, UK, a company committed to improving the way people relate to each other in the workplace, schools and other communities. With Peta Blood, Margaret co-founded Restorative Practices International (RPI), the world's first international membership organization for restorative practitioners. Margaret lives on the Sunshine Coast in Australia.
