FROM THE #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF PEOPLE WE MEET ON VACATION AND BOOK LOVERS!

A romance writer who no longer believes in love and a literary writer stuck in a rut engage in a summer-long challenge that may just upend everything they believe about happily ever afters.

Augustus Everett is an acclaimed author of literary fiction. January Andrews writes bestselling romance. When she pens a happily ever after, he kills off his entire cast.

They’re polar opposites.

In fact, the only thing they have in common is that for the next three months, they're living in neighboring beach houses, broke, and bogged down with writer's block.

Until, one hazy evening, one thing leads to another and they strike a deal designed to force them out of their creative ruts: Augustus will spend the summer writing something happy, and January will pen the next Great American Novel. She’ll take him on field trips worthy of any rom-com montage, and he’ll take her to interview surviving members of a backwoods death cult (obviously). Everyone will finish a book and no one will fall in love. Really.

Smiling Face with Heart-Eyes“I just love this happy-for-now ending. A beautiful well written book. I cried way too many times, but it was worthy. Probably my favorite book from Emily Henry 🧡”

Slightly Smiling Face“Did I love this book? Sure. Will I make it my whole personality? No. I think the last chapter was a bit rushed. But besides that alone, I really liked this book. It made my heart bounce with pure happiness and giggles. I do recommend this for a casual read since it has short-ish chapters. GREAT JOB OVERALL!!! Xoxo💛”

Beaming Face with Smiling Eyes“I really enjoyed this book. I loved the characters, Gus and January, so much; the setting as well. But, as much as I loved this book, it wasn’t the best book I’ve ever read; and as I was saying with one of the book club members, @liastyles, I did expect a little more from this book considering how so many people have read it and all the hype it gets. I don’t exactly know what made me decide from a 5 stars but I guess the book just didn’t feel like a 5 star read. But, It was enjoyable! :))”
