Be My Baby by Ronnie Spector & Vince Waldron & digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

“Do I have to tell you that Ronnie’s got one of the greatest female rock-and-roll voices of all time? She stands alone.”
—Keith Richards

Be My Baby is the behind-the-scenes story—newly updated, and with an especially timely message—of how the original bad girl of rock and roll, Ronnie Spector, survived marriage to a monster and carved out a space for herself amid the chaos of the 1960s music scene and beyond.

Ronnie’s first collaboration with producer Phil Spector, “Be My Baby,” shot Ronnie and the Ronettes to stardom. No one sounded like Ronnie, with her alluring blend of innocence and knowing, but her voice would soon be silenced as Spector sequestered her behind electric gates, guard dogs, and barbed wire.

It took everything Ronnie had to escape her prisonlike marriage and wrest back control of her life, her music, and her legacy. And as shown in this edition, which includes a 2021 postscript from Ronnie, her life became proof that our challenges do not define us and there is always the potential to forge a fuller life.

In Be My Baby, the incomparable Ronnie Spector offered a whirlwind account of the ever-shifting path of an iconic artist. And, more than anything else, she gave us an inspiring tale of triumph.

“Throughout the book, Phil Spector’s behavior gradually gets worse and Ronnie tries to balance it by arguing that he was also romantic, but in a very controlling manner. In past times, being a genius was an excuse for being cruel. The hardest part of the book for me to read was the latter half, where she talks about her kids. When she gets custody of her first son, she talks about how shocked she was to find out how much work being a mother is. The kids were left behind with Phil Spector so I’m not sure if her shock at the behavior was really warranted.”
Surprised Face with Open Mouth“Keith Richards had some stories about The Ronettes in his book and urged people to read Ronnies book. Damn, it's quite the story. The Audiobook is narrated by Rosie Perez and she does a brilliant job. The little stories about John Lennon and the Beatles were great. Bowie story was also treat😂. And then to top it off, llistening to Take Me Home Tonight by Eddie money will never be the same again. Adored by the best of the best in the singing/performing world. Legend”
“Ronnie Spector -a voice that defined a generation of singers. Nobody was like Ronnie. And this memoir proves it. What a ride. Her initial success may have came and went fast. But her voice will always stand the test of time. And if it weren’t for her psychotic husband Phil Spector, who knows what more she could have done in the 60s and 70s. Reading about her being held hostage inside her home by her abusive husband for years, and the bravery she had to finally escape, with the help of her mother, was a lot. And the fallout from her decision to divorce him, the pain he cause her and her son. Just devastating. My favorite thing about this book is how playful the writing is. You really see Ronnie; you feel her. Her voice truly shines through in each page. And I’m so happy we got a postscript written just a year before she passed away. It really gave a more impactful conclusion to her story. I am grateful to have seen Ronnie perform live in 2013. At 70, she still had all the talent she’s always had. She was truly the best. And I loved this memoir.”
