“I always hurt when I read this book. Jim Butcher id very talented at writing personal emotions so that you feel them in your soul. It was interesting to learn that, throughout his time writing this series, he went through a series of loss and tragedies that likely shaped his choices in the book and made his writing more powerful.
As I was going back through the series, each time I read another book I think to myself ‘this one is my favorite.’ I will say it again; this one is my favorite. It may be because of the war setting -that he wrote as accurately as I know, reminiscent of nonfiction books on war topics- or because of the varied emotions he war able to portray throughout the extreme situations.
This book strongly showcases Jim Butcher’s talent as a writer, and if you were to read this followed by the first book in the series, you would see stark differences. For one, this book and the last two pull away from the mystery story lines that made up the tale for the entire previous tales. For another, his writing is vastly improved, and has visibly grown.
5/5 would recommend.”
