“Didn’t blow me away as much as “Obit” did, but it’s hard for anything to blow me away as much as “Obit” did. Victoria Chang is inventive, fun to read, & a great poet to teach in workshop settings. I thoroughly enjoyed this collection.”
“added another star to my original rating cuz the book ended w this line: 'until you see that every woman begins and ends with another woman'”
“in the words of my friend mac…some of this is bloobloo bloobloo: definition: a quality which mac finds a little bit embarrassing to read, or thinks perhaps could have been changed in my opinion, many parts of the poems here are delightful. but there is often no throughline within the poem, which scatters it a bit. i liked the last section, "dear p," because it really is just chaos poetry, but before, when i felt there should have been a throughline or a unifying theme, i didn't feel it. it just felt a little messy to me. still love her writing though, and will read more. just hoping for a little more sophistication. (for an example of what i mean by "throughline", check out this poem by david berman: https://www.reddit.com/r/Poetry/comments/zazogz/poem_if_there_was_a_book_about_this_hallway_by/ )”
