Fifteen-year-old Lina is a Lithuanian girl living an ordinary life—until Soviet officers invade her home and tear her family apart. Separated from her father and forced onto a crowded train, Lina, her mother, and her young brother make their way to a Siberian work camp, where they are forced to fight for their lives. Lina finds solace in her art, documenting these events by drawing. Risking everything, she embeds clues in her drawings of their location and secretly passes them along, hoping they will make their way to her father's prison camp. “I loved following our main character, technically during the war, but not in the usual countries we read about. I really enjoyed this story and the events that took place. It was more realistic, sad, but almost hopeful at the same time. I did enjoy the ending, but also would've liked a little bit in between the final chapter and the epilogue. I enjoyed multiple characters and their changes/things they potentially did for others. I really want to watch the movie on this now!
4.5 stars!”
