As Simple as Snow
ByPublisher Description
Anna—who prefers to be called Anastasia—is a spooky and complicated high school girl with a penchant for riddles, Houdini tricks, and ghost stories. She is unlike anyone the narrator has ever known, and they make an unlikely, though happy, pair. Then Anna disappears, leaving behind only a dress near a hole in the frozen river, and a string of unanswered questions. Desperate to find out what happened the narrator begins to reconstruct the past five months. And soon the fragments of curious events, intimate conversations, secrets, letters—and the anonymous messages that continue to arrive—coalesce into haunting and surprising revelations that may implicate friends, relatives, and even Anna herself.

“Read it as a teenager and reread it now because it stayed in a corner of my head all this time. I like it more then but I guess it’s because I could unterstand them more at that time. The longing for something to happen, the annoying and constant cultural references and the egoistic self-centred attitude are all part of the teenager experience right?”
“Pg 13: teen drinking, no -explicit but acknowledged sex, profanity.
Recommend: hs and up, psychological thriller with lots of clues
The mystery doesn’t really get started until the middle of the book, that was sort of annoying. And all the dead end clues… but a heavy hint at a happy ending after all. It really was just a star girl story Al grown up and wearing Goth colors.
I think too much profanity for our library, and no over arching powerfully positive message to balance it out.”
