Another Day, Another Challenge, 3rd Edition by Marjorie Strebe digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

Another Day, Another Challenge is the biography of an atypical child born with Williams syndrome, a genetic disorder that most physicians had not heard of at the time of her diagnosis.

Williams syndrome affects different people in different ways. Although these individuals deal with developmental delays and mental disabilities, they often talk very intelligently and are usually gifted in music. Yet, most people can't see past their intelligence to their learning disability.

And while the book mentions most of the distinguishing characteristics of the syndrome, it details the unusual and difficult situations that our family faced as Michelle led us through social dilemmas, psychiatric challenges, and obsessions galore; obsessions that brought the police, fire department, and ambulance to our front door on many occasions.

The book deals with the unique challenges of a special needs child who was falling through the cracks of every service designed to support her needs. It clearly shows where the system failed and how a conscientious doctor or teacher could have improved the situation. It also gives insight as to what was going on behind the scenes in the home.

Informative and educational, Another Day, Another Challenge is a must-read for special education teachers, EMS personnel, pediatricians, professionals in the mental health field, and for anyone caring for those with special needs.

About Marjorie Strebe

An Air Force veteran, Marjorie Strebe is the mother of three children. When her youngest child was born, she quickly realized that this precious baby didn't develop at the same rate as her two older siblings. Her developmental delay was noticeable by the time she reached three months old, but it was another three years before she was diagnosed with Williams syndrome.Since Marj was a stay-at-home mom for the majority of Michelle's life, she was always available and involved with her daughter, the doctors, the schools, the agencies, and the psychiatric staff. No one knew Michelle better, and no one cared about her more.
