“The first half of this book was 80% romance, 20% espionage. It almost lost me. But just hang on! The plot takes off, while stakes get higher and higher toward the conclusion. This was an enjoyable read. I’ll definitely continue in the series.”
“This was an action-packed story about the inner workings of the Civil War. Two Union spys, Elle (a free black woman) and Malcolm (a Scottish man), work together to dismantle a fraction of the Confederates' goods and artillery.
The prologue instantly hooks you: Elle running through streets while on an important mission. She means business and you get a sense of it almost immediately. She also has a skilled talent that proves to be beneficial in several aspects of her life. When a romance grows between her and Malcolm, she never loses focus of the assignment at hand. Their infatuation caused great tension, yet it didn't overshadow the plot, which I appreciated.
I am so glad Elle's journey ended on a happy note.”
