An Easy Death

By Charlaine Harris
An Easy Death by Charlaine Harris digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

From the beloved #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Sookie Stackhouse series, the inspiration for HBO’s True Blood, comes “a gripping, twisty-turny, thrill ride of a read” (Karin Slaughter, New York Times bestselling author) following a young gunslinging mercenary on deadly mission through the American Southwest.

In a fractured United States, a new world where magic is acknowledged but mistrusted, a young gunslinger named Lizbeth Rose takes a job offer from a pair of Russian wizards. Lizbeth Rose has a wildly fearsome reputation but these wizards are desperate. Searching the small border towns near Mexico, they’re trying to locate a low-level magic practitioner believed to be a direct descendant of Grigori Rasputin.

As the trio journey through an altered America—shattered into several countries after the assassination of Franklin Roosevelt and the Great Depression—they’re set on by enemies. It’s clear that a powerful force does not want them to succeed in their mission. Lizbeth Rose has never failed a client, but this job may stretch her to her deadly limits.

“Immersive, involving, suspenseful and intriguing, with a main character you’ll love” (Lee Child, #1 New York Times bestselling author), An Easy Death is a fast-paced thriller of the highest order.

An Easy Death Reviews

“Took me a few chapters to get into, but I'm glad I stuck with it. A badass gunslinger chick, flighting the undead - I'm in! Some spice, but it was closed door, slightly cracked open, which I found great, because it didn't make the spice then the focus of the story. Looking forward to continuing the series! Bonus that I didn't have to wait for it to be available on Libby, it was ready to borrow!”
“An Easy Death. Charlaine Harris. 2018. Weird western and alternative history fantasy written as a thriller. An Easy Death is built on an interesting premise. America falls before WWII, after which it is chopped up by other powers, including Tsarist Russia, Mexico, Canada, and Great Britain. Lizeth Rose is a bodyguard hired to guard a pair of Russian wizards on a secret mission with ties to her own complicated past. From a crafting perspective, this story is a bit of an odd duck. On the surface, it is a weird-western-fantasy-hybrid set in an alternate historical timeline. But its prose is crafted for an audience who reads thrillers. The end result is a product that is bound to confuse readers and reviewers, leading me to wonder why an agent picked it up. I mean, I like the neo Western girl-with-a-big-gun twist, but I’m not sure that that is enough.”
