“This was not good. But I’m glad I read it because I adore Poston’s more recent novels and seeing her growth compared to this earlier work makes me appreciate her even more!”
“Such a great concept—the fox who accidentally becomes human. As a fox, there are qualities that are normal and appropriate… but as a human, those same qualities are suddenly worthy of scorn. A nice examination of coming to terms with who we are — and aren’t — set amidst the fable of a cursed wood and a motherless girl who sets out to save her kingdom. There’s a lot more which could have been answered — how was the crown made? — and the epilogue set up a sequel — as yet undelivered — but it’s a nice (relatively) short story.”
