“I liked the overall story, and Mei’s journey to self acceptance and pushing back against parental expectations, but a lot of things in this book felt unrealistic. Like, I’m pretty sure it’s a HIPPA violation to let a random 17 year old shadow a doctor and go into patients’ rooms without warning. And a lot of the dialogue felt contrived. Like, I don’t think real people spell out their racism and cultural conflicts with other ethnic groups so explicitly, in real life it would be more subtle. It’s almost like the author didn’t trust the reader to pick up on nuances”

“I will be so honest - I cannot remember anything about this book besides at some point she goes to a comedy club with an Asian female comedian with sub-par jokes.”
