She continually tests the depths and limits of her closeness with her mother, while Eve has to come to terms with the daughter she only partly knows, in a world she can’t control.

“as someone who hasn’t experienced grief on this level before i found this book in particular to be very eye opening. the way grief was portrayed was nothing short of beautiful. this book was happy, sad, angry, and comforting all at the same and truly makes you want to live life to the fullest. kinda sad it’s over. 5 stars.

“We get 2 POV’s and I very much enjoyed Maddy’s POV. Her mother, Eve, however was extremely frustrating at times. Especially in part 3 of the book. I understand she’s dealing with a lot of grief and so she’s not making the best decisions but some of her choices & thoughts are just seriously mind melting. There’s a lot going on. Maddy’s cancer, the situation with the father, the lake house, the climate change, the coming of age type storytelling in the first half…it’s a lot and sometimes it just doesn’t connect or make sense. Part III felt especially frustrating as I just struggled to see the point of much of it. This book invoked emotions from me though. It was very sad and it was extremely fascinating seeing Maddy’s thoughts. She’s a curious, unrelenting, and thoughtful character. Jack is another great character along with Maddy’s grandparents, and Alison, to an extent. Overall, this book has its flaws but it’s worth the read, if you like this kind of story.”About Karen Raney
Karen Raney recently gained an MA in creative writing from Goldsmiths, University of London, with a distinction and was awarded the 2017 Pat Kavanagh Prize for All the Water in the World when the novel was still a work in progress. Born in Schenectady, New York, Raney attended Oberlin College, graduated from Duke University, and worked as a nurse before moving to London to study art. She lives in London, and teaches at the University of East London.
