Priya Sharma is a doctor from the UK who also writes short fiction. Her work has appeared in Interzone, Black Static, Albedo one and Tor.com, among others. She's been anthologised in various annual Best of anthologies by editors like Ellen Datlow, Paula Guran, Jonathan Strahan and Johnny Mains. “Una bestia favolosa è il frutto di una metamorfosi eterodossa. È una fantasia incarnita che diventa infezione, in alcuni casi necrosi. Nella raccolta di racconti “Tutte le favolose bestie”, Priya Sharma narra storie di evoluzioni e degradazioni, ambientandole in una contemporaneità che sembra quasi la nostra, ma con dei tratti sinistri, come se alcuni punti potessero essere visti solo attraverso una scheggia di vetro. E per quanto sconfinato sia il suo immaginario, l’inchiostro in cui l’autrice intinge la penna ha però sempre l’odore soporifero della melancolia: un male torpido e lento che a volte impiega anche tutta la vita a fare il suo corso. I racconti di Sharma sono veri e propri romanzi di (tras)formazione in miniatura. Non accontentandosi di lasciare un’impressione su chi legge, l’autrice intreccia vicende articolate, spesso a partire da linee temporali diverse, per eviscerare il senso di annichilimento, di oscura epifania che opprime i cuori dei suoi protagonisti. Lo stile dell’autrice è elegante e mondano: la prosa è posata e il registro curato, ma non mancano momenti di luminosità febbrile, pulsazioni di veleno sacro. Se dovessimo trovare il pelo nell’uovo, si può ammettere che a volte durante la lettura si sente una certa ridondanza, complici forse il respiro e la lunghezza di alcuni racconti che avrebbero potuto essere un po’ più ermetici.”

About Priya Sharma

Priya Sharma's fiction has appeared venues such as Interzone, Black Static, Nightmare, The Dark and Tor. She's been anthologised in several of Ellen Datlow's Best Horror of the Year series and Paula Guran's Year's Best Dark Fantasy & Horror series, among other. She's also been on many Locus' Recommended Reading Lists. She is a Grand Judge for the Aeon Award, an annual writing competition run by Albedo One, Ireland's magazine of the Fantastic.

"Fabulous Beasts" was a Shirley Jackson Award finalist and won a British Fantasy Award for Short Fiction. Priya is a Shirley Jackson Award and British Fantasy Award winner, and Locus Award finalist, for "All the Fabulous Beasts", a collection of her some of her work, available from Undertow Publications.

"Ormshadow" is her first novella and is available from Tor.
