“Up until reading this book, I have been completely uninterested in anthologies of short stories. My only experiences with them was to pick them up in a shop, realise it is a collection of short stories and put it back down again. I read this book for University, and have since been reading back through the individual stories. I loved The Other Heaven, All the Fires the Fire, The Island at Noon and Instructions for John Howell. My favourite, by a country mile, was the Southern Thruway. The translator for this (from Spanish to English) is Suzanne Jill Levine and I am in awe of what an incredible translation it is. I read both versions and Levine's English encapsulates Cortázar's original work so brilliantly.”
