Publisher Description

The #1 New York Times best-selling author of Infected delivers medieval carnage as a pre-industrial society fights extinction at the hands of a massive infestation of Xenomorphs.

Ataegina was an isolated world of medieval castles, varied cultures, and conquests, vibrant until the demons rose and spread relentless destruction. Swarms of lethal creatures with black husks, murderous claws, barbed tails and dreaded "tooth-tongues" raged through the lowlands, killing ninety percent of the planet's population. Terrified survivors fled to hidden mountain keeps where they eke out a meager existence. When a trio of young warriors discovers a new weapon, they see a chance to end this curse. To save humanity, the trio must fight their way to the tunnels of Black Smoke Mountain--the lair of the mythical Demon Mother.

Thumbs Up“I've read a lot of the Alien books, and this is by far the best. Excellent world-building, characters, and pacing throughout. Solid writing that's much better than usual for this franchise, and an inventive original story that ties in well to the Alien mythology. Not really scary, but an outstanding science fiction novel with a great twist on female empowerment. Highly recommend for SF fans!”

“I absolutely loved this book. The material was fresh and fast paced. I could read 100 more with the imagination and material Scott Sigler has.”
“Denne var overraskende god! Kombinasjonen av Aliens og type romersk-legion krigføring passer godt. Gode action sekvenser, gode karakterer, et godt mysterium rundt hvorfor verden er som den er. Den har (selvfølgelig) Aliens som en trussel i bakgrunnen mens den eeeegentlige ondskapen er menneskene selv.”
“Fantastic! 4.5 Stars - Such a unique look at the Alien universe. Roman-inspired, lots of battles and great characters that have you rooting for them from the start. There are lots of great twists and turns, and while the story has plenty of Aliens (black demons), the non-traditional approach that Sigler takes leaves you wanting a second book to see how these characters are doing. Ahiliyah, Creen, and Brandun are all runners for Lemeth Hold, and they must brave the dangers of the outside to ensure the survival of their loved ones. Throughout this book, you love each one of them and they continue to frustrate you, but by the middle of the book, these characters have wormed their way into your heart. This is a great read if you love the Alien books, but want to read something without Colonial Marines. It's time for you to pick up your little friend (a knife), spear, and a shield instead of a gun.”
