Akata Woman by Nnedi Okorafor digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

Akata Woman is the New York Times bestselling third book in the series that started with Akata Witch, named one of Time magazine's "100 Best Fantasy Books of All Time" and "100 Best YA Books of All Time," from award-winning author Nnedi Okorafor.

"In this series, Okorafor creates a stunningly original world of African magic that draws on Nigerian folk beliefs and rituals instead of relying on the predictable tropes of Western fantasy novels."
—Time magazine

From the moment Sunny Nwazue discovered she had mystical energy flowing in her blood, she sought to understand and control her powers. Throughout her adventures in Akata Witch and Akata Warrior, she had to navigate the balance between nearly everything in her life—America and Nigeria, the "normal" world and the one infused with juju, human and spirit, good daughter and powerful Leopard Person.

Now, those hard lessons and abilities are put to the test in a quest so dangerous and fantastical, it would be madness to go...but may destroy the world if she does not. With the help of her friends, Sunny embarks on a mission to find a precious object hidden deep in an otherworldly realm. Defeating the guardians of the prize will take more from Sunny than she has to give, and triumph will mean she will be forever changed.

“I am so biased reading this omg but I loooved this! This book took me back to my secondary school days 🥺❤️”
“This is the third book in the series and the book that I’ve read the least amount of times (this being my third). Upon previously reading the book, I left with the understanding that while the book was absolutely incredible and definitely wasn’t bad compared to the other books, I knew that this one was my least favorite. My reason was dialogue. These characters have expanded to be more than just characters to me. They are comforting friends, they are music I listen to when I feel like I can hear the world no more, they are home. So when I felt like I didn’t get as much from them and between them, I just felt like the book didn’t feel as homey to me. Yet, upon re-reading I can officially that my mind has made a whole 180. The worlds, topics, and importance of identity that is explored within in this book is transformative. I’m embarrassed by my past self that I was so hung up on the lack of dialogue that I couldn’t immerse myself into the worlds we are introduced to within this book. Nnedi Okorafor is a storyteller and in my opinion it is not about the language with which you write that leaves its mark but it is the story that you embed within the language that carries on for generations. I shall carry this one with me ❤️”
