Read this book for my Akdang Pinoy Readthon Prompt I - Illustrated.
I’ve heard from some bookish friends that this book is confusing. And it’s actually true that this book can be a little confusing at times, but the world-building is still really interesting! I’ve heard that there’s also a short story collection connected to this world, and I think reading that would help me understand everything even better. Still, I was able to follow along with the story here, and it left me curious for more.
I also feel like I would’ve loved the book even more if I got to see the colors in it, since I read it on my Kindle. The art style was already striking in black and white, but I can only imagine how much more immersive it would be in full color. Overall, a unique and fascinating read that makes me excited to explore more of Eliza Victoria’s works.”

“After Lambana combines the hallmarks of an Eliza Victoria story and a Mervin Malonzo art quite well. This particular collaboration is highly effective in showcasing an alternate Manila, and an alternate Lambana. As every Filipino who grew up with myths and folklores in their head, it truly is an alternative Lambana, decaying and all.”shanays

About Eliza Victoria
Eliza Victoria is the author of several award-winning novels including the Philippine National Book Award winner Dwellers (2014), Wounded Little Gods (2016), and her science fiction collection Nightfall (2018). Her stories and poetry have appeared in online and print publications, most recently in LONTAR: The Journal of Southeast Asian Speculative Fiction, The Best Asian Speculative Fiction, The Dark Magazine, Dark Regions Press's Strand-ed: Lone Survivor Deserted Island Horror Stories, and The Apex Book of World SF Volume 5
Mervin Malonzo graduated magna cum laude from the University of the Philippines, Diliman with a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, majoring in Painting. He is a designer, painter, and cartoonist. He has his own design and web development team, Pepe & the Polygons, based in Paranaque, the Philippines, and is the co-founder and lead designer for The Quarterly Bathroom Companion Comics Compendium, or the QBCCC anthology.
