Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
ByPublisher Description
A beautiful hardcover repackaging of this timeless classic from the publishers of the Autobiography of Mark Twain and in partnership with the Mark Twain Project.
This definitive edition of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was the only version of Mark Twain’s masterpiece based on his complete manuscript, including the 663 pages found in a Los Angeles attic in 1990. “school read, 1.5 stars
no. just, no.
I was planning on giving this a somewhat higher rating, but that ending absolutely ruined it. It was so lazy, so pointless, so cheap, and it completely halted the whole journey and moral of the story. And god I hate Tom Sawyer. With a burning passion.
Plus, I've just never enjoyed twain's writing. I can appreciate what he did for modern literature, but god his words are a nightmare to read.
The only redeeming quality about this book was the layered and subtle satire and irony. It was skillfully done, although I do think it is dangerous considering how much it relies on racial stereotypes. And I thought Huck Finn was a good narrator. But again, the ending ruined his character for me a lot.
Maybe I should be more forgiving in my review. But that ending made me so furious that it ruined everything I had liked about the first 30 or so chapters.
Thats all I have to say. Avoid this book, if you can. There are better novels by Twain. And there are, easily, much better anti-slavery books out there too.

I've been doing some thinking. and I am going to up my rating to 2.25 stars.
My reflections on this book have led me to realize that, most likely, Twain wanted to elicit this kind of a response from readers so that we sympathize with Jim and condemn slavery. Now that I understand that more, I understand that literature shouldn't only be judged on how much we enjoy it, but also the craft of it, objectively.
So yes, I hated reading Huck Finn, and I stand by what I said earlier. But I am not going to let my thoughts on it be driven 100% by my emotions.”
