“This is a collection of 13 solid science fiction stories with a common theme of space exploration. The authors are a mix of Chinese and Western authors. There are wormholes, skip points for accelerating a ship outside the solar system, nanotechnology, cryogenic suspension, familiar ideas in the sci-fi realm. For me there were two standout stories, the first “The Race for Arcadia” by Alex Shvartsman about a race between the Russians, Americans and Indians to send a manned mission to a planet first explored by a Chinese drone called Arcadia. The lightest ship will have the advantage, Nikolai, a mathematician who has been diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor piloting the “Yuri Gargarin” plans to be first but all is not as it appears. The other story that stood out for me was “The Seeds of Mercury” by Wang Jinkang, which is about a Chinese scientist’s work to establish and evolve a non-carbon based life form on the planet Mercury, where carbon-based life forms would be frazzled. Anyone interested in the possibilities of travel to other planets would be entertained by this collection.

Patrick Parrinder is Emeritus Professor of English at the University of Reading and President of the H.G. Wells Society. He is the author of many books on H.G. Wells, science fiction and modern literature and is General Editor of the 12-volume Oxford History of the Novel in English (2011–24).

Yao Haijun (Honorary Editor) is deputy Director-in-Chief of Science Fiction World, President of Chengdu Science Fiction Association, and Co-founder of Chinese Science Fiction Nebula Award. He founded China's first science fiction fanzine Nebula in 1988 and joined Science Fiction World in 1998. He discovered many new writers, initiating the ‘Science Fiction Vision Project’ which launched the internationally bestselling ‘Three-Body’ series. He has also won the Chinese Science Fiction Nebula Award for Best Editor.

Leah Cypess is the author of four young adult fantasy novels, starting with Mistwood (HarperCollins 2010). Her middle grade debut, Thornwood, about Sleeping Beauty's little sister, is scheduled to be published by Random House in 2021. She is also the author of short fiction published in Asimov's Science Fiction and the Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, among other places. Amdi Silvestri is a Danish author. Active since 2008, he has contributed to a galaxy of different anthologies, and has published nineteen books; most recently the novel Für Elise and a collection of short stories titled Almost Here. He has received the Danish Niels Klim Prize for science fiction five times. His work tends to be experimental and restless, and insists on mixing genres and styles, using every piece of fiction as an opportunity to do something different.

Allen Stroud is an acclaimed science fiction writer, academic and former Chair of the British Science Fiction Association. He’s the author of the highly-regarded space opera Fearless and the official Elite: Dangerous tie-in Lave Revolution. Allen also works on game design, roleplaying games, short stories, and screenwriting. His soundtrack The Fractal Series complements the Fearless universe blending story and music for fans of plausible science fiction, Alastair Reynolds, and Arthur C. Clarke.

Chen Zijun is a Science Fiction writer and a PhD in Engineering Mechanics from Tsinghua University. He has won the Galaxy Award and the Global Nebula Award several times. He is currently working in Aerospace related fields.
Han Song
Han Song is one of China's best-known SF authors. He is Chief of the Science Fiction Committee of China Science Writers’ Association and president of the World Chinese Science Fiction Association. He balances his sense of wonder about all things technological, with a finely-honed sense of social justice. Clones, alternate populations and psychological manipulation appear regularly in his work. A multiple recipient of the Galaxy Award, his books include Subway and Gravestone of the Universe.

Wang Jinkang
Wang Jinkang (王晋康) is a senior petroleum engineer, a member of Chinese Writers Association, Vice President of China Science Writers’ Association, and the honorary president of the World Chinese SF Association. His first story, "Adam's Regression" (in Science Fiction World) in 1993, was a story he made up for his 10-year-old son. This story went on to win first prize in the Galaxy Award. He has published over ninety short stories and 16 novels.

He Xi, born in 1971, is one of the most well-known science fiction writers in China. He published his debut One Crazy Night in 1991. He has won the Galaxy Award (the highest honor for science fiction writing in China) 17 times and the Chinese Nebula Award multiple times. Many of his works are about the future of macro science and how humanity reacts to it. Some of his better-known works are: The Doomed Year, Natural Born Talent, Who am I, Never Meet Again, and The Six Paths of Lives.
