About Average

By Andrew Clements & Mark Elliott
About Average by Andrew Clements & Mark Elliott digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

Can average be amazing? The bestselling author of Frindle shows that with a little kindness, it can.

Jordan Johnston is average. Not short, not tall. Not plump, not slim. Not gifted, not flunking out. Even her shoe size is average. She’s ordinary for her school, for her town, for even the whole wide world, it seems.

Then Marlea Harkins, one of the most popular girls in school—and most definitely the meanest—does something unthinkable, and suddenly nice, average Jordan isn’t thinking average thoughts anymore. She wants to get Marlea back! But what’s the best way to beat a bully? Could it be with kindness?

Called “a genius of gentle, high concept tales set in suburban middle school” by The New York Times, bestselling author Andrew Clements presents a compelling story of the greatest achievement possible—self-acceptance.

“I sometimes read young YA books as a way to cleanse my brain if I've just read a long or heavy book, or if I just have a few hours to spare. Andrew Clements is usually one of my favorites. I didn't love this book, though. While it was a good story about a girl who felt she was average in every way and then she saves the lives of herself, her classmates and their teacher, it wasn't as solid a story as I'm used to from Mr. Clements. It does put a good spin on being "nothing special" in your own mind and then discovering you've got what it takes to pull off something great, so I would advise it for the age it's meant for, but maybe it's too juvenile for me. Shocking, I know, since I'm well beyond 5th grade!”
