They call them the Weatherby Wallflowers…

After her mother's death, Eleanor Weatherby has had a hard enough time shepherding her three younger sisters through the world and running her father's household on a shoestring budget. But now her father, an eccentric naturalist who has always shown more interest in birds and beetles than his own flesh and blood, has sold their home so he could afford passage on an exploratory voyage around the world! Suddenly the four sisters dubbed the Weatherby Wallflowers don't even have a roof over their heads.

Their only chance…

Eleanor somehow manages to secure an invitation to the Countess of Milthorpe's house party, which buys them two weeks of shelter. Eleanor is firmly on the shelf, but her youngest sister, Philippa, manages to catch the eye of Felix St. James, younger brother of the Duke of Norwood. If Pippa can bring Felix up to scratch, it will draw them back from the brink of destitution.

The man standing in their way…

There's only one problem—Jasper St. James, the Duke of Norwood. He immediately marked Pippa as an upstart miss who was only after his brother's fortune. Jasper vows that he won't let Felix out of his sight. But at every turn he is foiled by Eleanor Weatherby, who seems as determined to promote the match as Jasper is to prevent it.

As Jasper and Eleanor match wits, he discovers that she is impertinent, imperious… and impossible to resist. It turns out that sparring with a headstrong wallflower is more to this stern duke's taste than the milquetoast maidens he was considering for his bride at the start of the house party. Maybe one of the Weatherby Wallflowers will be marrying into the St. James family after all… if Jasper hasn't already ruined everything.

A Wallflower Never Surrenders is a steamy, comedic Regency Romance. It was a finalist for the 2025 HOLT Medallion Award for Best Historical Romance, alongside Book 2 in the Weatherby Wallflowers series, Snowbound with the Scoundrel, which took home the award. Please be advised that it features open-door love scenes.

“Loved this book couldn't put it down! Eleanor is the oldest of 4 girls their mother died when they were all very young and their father is a “naturalist” who keeps going off on wild goose chases and spending any money they have on these trips without a care for what happens to any of his daughters. Eleanor is used to taking care of herself and her sisters on basically nothing but they have always had a home… until their father’s latest trip around the world where he sells their mother’s home to fund luxury accommodations and when asked where they will live his response is that Eleanor will figure it out… oh and the home is already sold and they have to move out right now. Eleanor is resourceful and writes to everyone she knows to see if there is any work and/or lodgings available receiving an invitation to a house party with the Countess of Milthorpe it's only 2 weeks but it will at least give some extra time to figure out what to do next. The Duke of Norwood is present he is looking for a bride but also looking out for his younger brother (Felix) who he has been responsible for since their parents died when he was a young teenager. Jasper (the Duke) worries that his younger brother is too trusting and too easy for others to take advantage of his kindness. Pippa (the youngest sister) catches the eye of Felix after arriving to the house party as they are both kind hearted animal lovers they form an immediate connection. Seeing the "Weatherby Wallflowers" as they have been named by society after an incident with one of the middle sisters and knowing that they are not well off the Duke worries his brother is being taken advantage of again and begins work on trying to prevent this match. Eleanor initially going to the house party and hoping any of them could find a husband and being open to "all" options even someone old enough to be their grandfather sees that her youngest sister could be making a true love match and wants to help push Felix and Pippa together. The Duke and Eleanor are now working against each other on this potential match and tempers and sparks fly... and frequently. Jasper went to this house party looking for a possible wife with a "proper" back ground, beautiful and demure but just maybe he doesn't want that at all perhaps he needs someone who isn't afraid of him and will put him in his place when needed and someone who can be his true partner in life someone who cares about him as a person not as being a powerful and rich Duke... someone who will help him carry his mastiff through the woods if needed. Quick read with some spice does leave some things unanswered so hoping that they will be revealed in the bonus epilogue or one of the future books. Going to pre-order the next book!”
“I don’t think I could love this story anymore than I already do. I was absolutely giddy, giggling with glee, hands clapping like a teenage girl. I laughed, I cried and I practically swooned. There is nothing better than the delightful banter of a true enemies to lovers trope, add in the Shakespearean flair and I am in heaven. Much Ado About Nothing is my favourite of the Bards plays. The sass and witticism of Beatrice and Benedict provides endless enjoyment and McCaskill channeled their energy perfectly. The Weatherby Wallflowers promises of be a fabulous series and I cannot wait to see what’s in store or each of these willful sisters.”
