A Song in the Dark: A Novel of World War II by Kimberley Woodhouse digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

Against the simmering backdrop of the impending WWII, blind virtuoso pianist Chaisley Frappier embarks on a concert tour through a rapidly changing Europe despite the dangers. When she learns that Hitler's escalating regime of injustice is targeting other disabled people, Chaisley realizes she is in a prime position to help those who are threatened reach safety. But the Führer's growing fascination with the celebrated musician endangers her undercover mission and forces her to walk a tightrope between her fame and her calling.

When Rick Zimmerman receives his next assignment from the British Secret Intelligence Service, he's surprised to learn he'll be acting as the personal driver of a world-renowned pianist as she traverses Europe. The role gives him the perfect cover to complete side missions of sabotage and intelligence-gathering, but he soon suspects the brilliant, alluring pianist has secrets of her own. As Chaisley and Rick confront evil at every turn, it will take every bit of faith and courage they possess to triumph over hate--and survive.

Bestselling author Kimberley Woodhouse crafts a stirring story of fighting for hope, love, and justice amid the tumultuous European continent on the brink of war.

A Song in the Dark: A Novel of World War II Reviews

4.0
“I've read a lot of WW2 novels but this one was incredible. The courage was inspiring. The history was immersive. And the characters were so lovable. I loved the unique element of having a nazi point of view. And the romance was super sweet. Everyone really stood out in their own unique ways. But I think Melanie was my favorite character. She just kept fighting no matter what, and it was really beautiful. This book does a fantastic job portraying the heartbreak of WW2. The ending is bittersweet, as it should be. And the themes of hope and courage nearly made me cry.”
“I wanted to love this book, it was highly anticipated and I heard such great reviews! It was a good story, and I loved the premise, however, it fell a little flat for me. For us, we know the full history and how awful Hitler was. But, during that time in the beginning stages of the war, many people were drawn in by him, and they were not fully aware of the extent of his atrocities. It was very cut and dry of good vs evil, and I would have liked to see more fleshed out characters. There is strong faith content and strong convictions, so if you like that, this will be the story for you.”
“My favorite Kimberley book yet!!! ❤️ This is one of my favorite historical time periods, and I am SO happy I found a novel set in this the era. Kimberley did a phenomenal job with the setting and research, especially with the dive into Krystallnicht. While the climax wasn’t quite what I expected, I enjoyed the plot for the most part. The romance was delightfully sweet and precious, and the prose was lovely. The characters didn’t have quite as much growth as I usually see in the genre, but I loved them all dearly. Rick is adorable, hehe.”
