“still obsessed with how beautifully Kitamura traces the complexities and inconsistencies of human relationships.”
“I had higher hopes for this book, as the ending fell flat for me. I really enjoyed the writing style and how detailed the FMC was portrayed. I also found the way her changeup on grief and her overall outlook on life changed in the later half of the book, as it felt realistic and messy. As grief usually can be. I was expecting more twists from the plot, the murder, etc but even a revelation would have been nice at the end. Unfortunately, I felt the story didn't have that closure you'd expect from the build up.
I hate rating books with lower stars, but I didn't find this would be very memorable for me. I would be interested in reading her other work though - the writing style was captivating despite the lack of plot.”

Katie Kitamura is a critic and novelist living in New York City. She is the author of Gone to the Forest and The Longshot, both of which were finalists for the New York Public Library’s Young Lions Fiction Award. A recipient of a Lannan Residency Fellowship, Kitamura has written for The New York Times, The Guardian, Granta, BOMB, Triple Canopy, and is a regular contributor to Frieze.
