A Season in Hell

By Kenneth W. Cain
A Season in Hell by Kenneth W. Cain digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

Just one season can change everything. When Dillon Peterson is honored for his baseball career, he must face a ghost that has long haunted him. He is transported back through his memories to a single season in the nineties that broke his heart.

That was the season he met Keisha Green, the first and only woman to play baseball in the minor leagues. He sees what she goes through, what she must endure just to play the game both of them love, and this struggle leads to their friendship. As matters escalate, Dillon finds himself regretting his role in it all, as well as his career in baseball.

“A Season in Hell is definitely best read in private, this one is definitely going to tug at your heart strings and enrage you. I reviewed a horror anthology called Embers from Kenneth last year and I was very impressed so I was looking forward to getting stuck into A Season in Hell. Baseball is a sport I nothing about but this did not affect my understanding of the story. This is a haunting story about injustice, going against the status quo and friendship. Keisha’s story is narrated so realistically that it read like a true story. This intensified the suffering that Keisha is subjected to, making it raw, easy to imagine and full of anguish. Though this is a short novella, it evoked very strong emotion in me. The writing is excellent and I was completely wrapped up in the story from start to finish. I’d like to think that in this day and age that they are not still people in situations similar to Keisha’s and Derrick’s, but I know that’s not true. That makes this novella all the more powerful and heart-wrenching. This is a must-read.”
