“Wow 🤯 this how I felt.
This was a mind blowing dark comedy/ thriller if you will. I enjoyed the writing style of this author. It’s a story about Jackson and how he was on a journey to get his money “raised up” from $10 to $100 to give his new lady the good life. But,it didn’t come without some challenges in Harlem. It was almost like reading a dark comic book but in a novel. Does that make sense? 🤣 I did get a little overwhelmed at one point because it was SO much going on at once.
Anyway the best thing about this was the audiobook! It’s narrated by THE Samuel L. Jackson and LISTEN… it was chefs kiss!! He’s such an amazing actor and he does the voices for each and EVERY character in the book!!! And he did not miss! He truly brings the story to life! It felt like I was in them Harlem streets. I really enjoyed it and almost shedded a tear.
I’m not sure if I’ll make through all 7 books in this Detective Series, but a Rage in Harlem has a place in my heart.

CHESTER HIMES began his writing career while serving in the Ohio State Penitentiary for armed robbery from 1929 to 1936. From his first novel, If He Hollers Let Him Go (1945), Himes dealt with the social and psychological repercussions of being black in a white-dominated society. Beginning in 1953, Himes moved to Europe, where he met and was strongly influenced by Richard Wright. It was in France that he began his best-known series of crime novels—including Cotton Comes to Harlem (1965)—featuring two Harlem policemen. As with Himes's earlier work, the series is characterized by violence and grisly, sardonic humor. He died in Spain in 1984.
