A Princess in Theory

By Alyssa Cole
A Princess in Theory by Alyssa Cole digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

From acclaimed author Alyssa Cole comes the tale of a city Cinderella and her Prince Charming in disguise . . .

Between grad school and multiple jobs, Naledi Smith doesn’t have time for fairy tales…or patience for the constant e-mails claiming she’s betrothed to an African prince. Sure. Right. Delete! As a former foster kid, she’s learned that the only things she can depend on are herself and the scientific method, and a silly e-mail won’t convince her otherwise.

Prince Thabiso is the sole heir to the throne of Thesolo, shouldering the hopes of his parents and his people. At the top of their list? His marriage. Ever dutiful, he tracks down his missing betrothed. When Naledi mistakes the prince for a pauper, Thabiso can’t resist the chance to experience life—and love—without the burden of his crown.

The chemistry between them is instant and irresistible, and flirty friendship quickly evolves into passionate nights. But when the truth is revealed, can a princess in theory become a princess ever after?

Expressionless Face“I think this is a case of it's me and not the book. I don't tend to love the whole spectacle of royals in real life or fiction. But I tried! Anyway, the emails at the beginning were funny and pulled me in immediately. Didn't last long however. I'm not gonna lie, this was between 2&3 stars for me. I think I'm just a grump though. I tried to go with the light heartedness of it all. But I disliked Thabiso so much. His arrogance and judgmental behaviors due to him being a prince made him mostly unlikable. There were moments for sure where he was kinda likeable but it tainted the book for me where I got to the point I just wanted to be done tbh. I really liked Ledi in the beginning but then that lessened. Portia is a mess but damn Ledi judged the fuck out of her, she was pushed to the side for Thabiso and was only used for page filler. Didn't love the spiritual/religious aspects either. Or Thabiso's mother being an asshole. I really liked Nya. And the last 20% was a little exciting even though it was painfully obvious what was happening and who was doing it. The romance was mostly sexual attraction and a forced emotional connection because of "fate".”

“ooops it's been a couple of days since I finished this and surprise surprise, it seems like I forgot to update. Shocking right? This NEVER happens to me oh my god. Yeah ok I'll cut he crap we all know I do this all the time *sigh* Anyway, let's talk about the book! A Princess In Theory is a very enjoyable read; I loved the female heroine and I really liked the male lead as well. They are both interesting characters, well layered and portrayed, with distinct personalities and thoughts. BUT, I just never really cared enough about either of them to get invested. Personally I couldn't find the spark I search for in my romances; I felt like there was almost no real chemistry between the two. I don't know, maybe this has to do with the fact I half listened to it as on audiobook, which is NOT good, I do not recommend. It really threw me off and spoiled the mood if I'm being completely honest. So final verdict: even though this book didn't fully meet my expectations, it doesn't mean that I didn't enjoy it! I loved a lot of things about it and I can see why so many people are such fans; if you are interested in romances which are not solely based on, well, the romance, but also lots of other issues such as racism, feminism, workplace dynamics to name a few, then definitely give A Princess In Theory a try!”
