“the book has some pieces of good advice which makes sense seeing as this guy's been in science since 1970
may be a good read for someone still trying to decide whether or not they want to stay in academia post PhD. Seems to be a lot of pros/cons.
All in all, this book made me very glad that I have a good advisor and very sad that it kept reminding me I am spending the best years of my life in school”
“While a bit subjective on some points, I think it does a good job overall of introducing certain aspects of an academic career not just for those graduating from their phds but also for those considering to major in science (or a non science major but still continuing in academia). I may have chosen majors differently had I been exposed to the constraints of “temp positions” unless hired after many many years as a permanent scientist/tenured professor.”
About Peter J. Feibelman
A Senior Scientist at Sandia National Laboratories, Peter J. Feibelman received a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of California at San Diego, did postdoctoral research at the C.E.N. Saclay (France) and the University of Illinois (Urbana), and taught for three years at Stony Brook University. Feibelman lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
