Publisher Description

Cherry, Nebraska, population 312, is just off the highway between the sticks and the boonies. It’s where Dave Rhodes and his friends have lived all their lives. They own businesses, raise families, pay taxes, deal with odd neighbors, and, once or twice a month--just like their fathers before them--transform into wolves.

It’s not a bad life, but when one of the group members goes astray, it sets in motion a series of events that will threaten to destroy the delicate balance that has kept Dave and his clan off the radar. Between a son getting ready for his first transformation--called The Scratch--a wife with sordid secrets, a new sheriff who knows nothing of the creatures in his midst, and a mysterious man in a bow tie with a shady agenda, the middle of nowhere is about to get very dangerous.

Expressionless Face“DNF'ed early on because the editing in this book leaves much to be desired. New chapters (or "Parts" as they're referred to) don't start on fresh pages; they just pick up a few blank lines farther down the page the previous chapter ended on. There are many transcription errors ("knight" instead of "night"), and occasionally extra words that were never cut. The story itself had a promising start, but quickly became confusing. It opens with a character dying after having killed another, but then it literally pulls a "meanwhile, nearby" and goes back in time with zero warning to those characters being alive and partying in a bar. What?? Overall, this book just managed to annoy me within the first few chapters and I haven't wanted to pick it up again. The only plus side is that now I'm writing my own novel out of spite, because I know I can do better editing and storytelling than this. Maybe I'll pick this book up again when I need motivation.”
