A Laird in London Reviews

“Lady Isabella Wood has arrived in London after being given an ultimatum by her older brother that she must find her husband. Angus has also newly arrived in London in the hope to meet the person who owns land near his property so that he can reclaim the same. Angus is not looking for a wife that is until he meets Isabella. Their meeting is memorable and neither Isabella or Angus can forget the other until it transpires that the land that Angus is trying to obtain is connected to Isabella’s family. This is the second book in the Lairds of the Isles series. The first book is A Laird for the Governess which is a book I adored so I was looking forward to reading the second in the series and meeting some new characters. Having read this book I think I loved it as much as the first. I really loved the storyline and the writing style because it felt like I was watching a regency tv series/film. I think one of my favourite scenes was when Angus saved Isabella from the cattle stampede. It was the perfect meeting, dramatic and romantic all at the same time. When they meet it’s clear that Angus and Isabella like each other and are very curious to learn more about the other. I thought it was really cute when Angus and Isabella would attend events and would be looking out for each other so they could have another chance meeting. As characters Angus and Isabelle have so much in common. Neither of them wants to be in London, part of London society or part of the Ton. The impression I got from both Angus and Isabella is that the idea of London society is very alien to them and it’s a place where they do not feel comfortable or part of. Neither of them wants to be part of a society where they have to behave in a certain way and cannot be themselves. But due to their circumstances they have to try and conform. For Angus he hopes that becoming temporarily part of London society he can be directly introduced to the owner of the land he is trying to purchase and for Isabella she has been told in no uncertain terms by her brother that she is now of a marriageable age and she has to find her husband otherwise one will be chosen for her. Isabella is definitely a character after my own heart. She knows that she has to behave in a certain way but she has no airs and graces about her rather she treats everyone equally regardless of their status and she’s happy with her normal dresses rather than the fancy ones she has to wear. There was an interesting contrast between how each brother treated their younger sisters. In Freddy’s case, he sets out clearly his expectations of Isabella i.e that she must find a husband. Whereas Angus respects his sisters decision and leaves whether she wants to marry or not to her. He makes it clear that whatever decision she makes he will support. A regency romance that will sweep you off your feet.”
