Aclamado novelista y autor dramático, Ira Levin (1929-2007) nació en Nueva York y entre sus libros se cuentan Las mujeres perfectas, Acosada (llevados al cine con, respectivamente, Nicole Kidman y Sharon Stone como protagonistas), Bésame antes de morir, Los niños de Brasil (con GregoryPeck y Laurence Olivier en su versión cinematográfica), La semilla del diablo y El hijo de Rosemary, entre otros.
Su producción teatral incluye Trampa mortal, éxito en Broadway y ganadora de un premio Tony. Asimismo, obtuvo dos premios Edgar, otorgados por la Mistery Writers of America, y el Bram Stoker por la totalidad de su carrera concedido por la Horror Writers Association. En 1968 La semilla del diablo fue llevada al cine con enorme éxito de crítica y público. Dirigida por Roman Polanski, contaba con Mia Farrow y John Cassavetes en los papeles principales.
