“There was a lot I liked about this book but also a lot that detracted from my enjoyment! The world was interesting and I’m really intrigued by where the story will go with the magic and artifacts in future books. I also loved the main characters and their diverse strengths. However, the pacing was pretty wonky throughout. We’d jump times and locations between chapters with little notice, and I struggled to keep up with where we were in the world, even with the map (like, am I stupid, or does it never say where the capital actually is?). I also think the love developed really quickly. Elias and Beau I believed in more strongly since they were established friends (and the yearning was delicious), but Pen and Beau leapt from literal enemies to lovers in like three days. 😅 The spice was fun, but I wanted a little more yearning and buildup for the throuple overall. I’m really hoping that the author’s talent will develop with future installments of this trilogy and I won’t struggle with as much in book two. The writing was definitely not bad, but there were definitely some things that pulled me out of the story and lowered my overall rating”
“A fantastic read! After the clunky start I loved the characters and the storyline as a whole. Very excited to dive into the 2nd book of the Trilogy 💕🙌”
